Drogheda First town in Ireland to get free internet access
Smartphones and laptops at the ready; Drogheda now offers free wifi access for locals and visitors to the busy, go-ahead town.
"This is the first time that a computer company has provided free internet access like this in Ireland," says Durnin. "You may get coffee shops and
restaurants providing internet access on their premises, but you don't get free access on a scale like this because initial infrastructure costs
are so high. If you look at one of our main streets in Dublin City Centre for example: Grafton Street - you can't get free wifi access." He
estimates the cost of providing the service at upwards of €5,000."
Image Group Managing Director Peter Durnin explains the incentive to provide the free wifi came from the Local Heroes project. "We wanted to give
something back and as part of the Local Heroes campaign we designed a free wireless internet access service for Drogheda Town Centre. We designed
the solution, supplied all the equipment, and will manage it over the coming years."- As part of a drive to regenerate the town, one local company has taken on to provide free internet access in the town centre to entice business, visitors and shoppers into the town.
